Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopy uses X-Rays, which create real-time images of structures in motion or enhanced with an opaque substance called barium. This substance is in the form of a liquid that can be administered orally or rectally for evaluation of the stomach or colon. The use of real-time imaging allows demonstration of the movement in your digestive system similar to watching a video. In specific circumstances, air in conjunction with barium can be used as a contrast agent for outlining the gastrointestinal system. These examinations are done by the radiologist and results can be faxed to your doctor on the same day.
